because i can't sing or dance
Because I Can’t Sing or Dance was a durational performance at the east entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2009. In it, I ran up the stone steps time and again until I could no longer run. Each time I chose not to complete the journey to the top of the 72 steps as a conscious withholding of the American Dream. The performance was meant as an allegory for the myth of the land of opportunity, both in the 1976 film and as an art student trying to launch a career.
